Who needs Italian civil and vital records online
Individuals in Italy
Do you need a birth, marriage, residence or family status certificate but have no SPID, don’t want to queue at the comune counter, or were born in a different region? We request the certificate on your behalf directly from the relevant office and deliver it to you as a PDF by email. If you need the paper original, it will reach you by express courier anywhere in Italy.
Italians living abroad
Are you registered with AIRE or living permanently abroad and need a document from your Italian comune of birth or residence? You don’t have to travel back to Italy or go through the consulate. We request the certificate directly from the relevant comune and deliver it to you as a PDF or, on request, as a paper original by express courier anywhere in the world — complete with apostille and sworn translation where needed.
Italian citizenship by descent (jure sanguinis)
Are you tracing your family tree to claim Italian citizenship by descent? You will need historical birth, marriage and death certificates for your Italian ancestors — often dating back to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century — together with an apostille and a sworn translation. Frequent asked questions
Do I need SPID to request a certificate through ClickCertificati?
No. You don’t need SPID, an Italian electronic ID card or any digital identity. You enter the details of the person the certificate relates to, complete your order, and we handle the procedure with the comune on the basis of a formal authorisation.
How long will it take to receive my certificate?
Standard processing takes 15 working days, with an express option at 7 working days. The delivery time refers exclusively to the PDF document issued by the comune and sent by email. It does not apply to historical searches, apostille procedures or translations. Delivery times cannot be guaranteed, as they depend entirely on the timeframes of the offices involved.
Can I request a certificate for someone other than myself?
For birth, marriage and death certificates, yes: anyone who knows the personal details of the individual concerned can request them. For extracts (estratto) and full record copies (copia integrale), the rules are stricter: they can only be requested by the individual concerned, by the parents if the individual is a minor, or by someone who can demonstrate a legitimate reason (heir, inheritance proceedings, citizenship application by descent). If you’re unsure, contact us before ordering.
I live abroad. Can I request documents from my Italian comune?
Yes, this is one of our most requested services. You receive the PDF by email anywhere in the world. If you need the paper original or a document to be submitted abroad (with an apostille and/or sworn translation), we take care of it and send it to you by tracked express courier.
